Ingredients

Directions

  1. Mix the butter, sugar, and salt until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  2. Add the egg yolks to the butter mixture and mix until all the ingredients are combined.
  3. Add vanilla extract to the mixture.
  4. Then add the flour little by little and keep mixing. Mix well until a perfect paste is formed.
  5. Roll the dough into a log-shaped structure. Wrap it in parchment paper and then let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  6. Once the dough gets cooled off, take it out from the fridge.
  7. Take some of the powdered sugar and sprinkle it on a clean surface. Now unwrap the dough and roll it evenly on the sugar.
  8. With the help of cookie cutters, cut out the rolled dough.
  9. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place them securely. Don’t overcrowd the baking tray. If you want, brush a very thin layer of butter on the cutouts and sprinkle some more powdered sugar over them.
  10. Put the baking tray into the oven and bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes at 350 °F.
  11. Once the surface gets the golden brown color, your cookies are done.
  12. Remove from the oven and allow to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes. After that transfer to a cooling wire rack to cool completely.

Tips

  • Measure the flour before mixing it with the butter mixture. The wrong amount of flour will make the cookie dough too firm, which will later ruin the texture of the cookies. Measure the flour with a measuring cup and add a small amount at a time. Mix very well to get the perfect consistency.
  • You can also use the regular sugar if you don’t want a crunchy crust for your cookies.
  • If you want a more crispy cookie, then, leave the baking sheet in the oven after turning it off and keep the microwave door slightly open after baking. This will help to dehydrate the cookies which will further make the cookies more crunchy yet perfectly tasty.
  • The vanilla extract you are using must be original so that you get the exact sweetness and flavor of vanilla in your cookies.
  • You can use any cookie cutter or any shape of your choice to cut the cookies. You can use a Christmas tree-shaped cookie cutter for this recipe, which makes your cookies look more delicious and festive for this holiday season.
  • You can also use cookie stamps to make various shapes of butter cookies if you don’t have a specially shaped cookie cutter.
