Recipes with Shallot

Shallots are a member of the allium family, like onions, garlic, and chives. It is thought to have come from Central or Southeast Asia. The aroma of shallot is lighter and more delicate than regular onion. However, it can be used as a substitute for yellow onions in cooking.

Shallots are used in many recipes, from Asian cuisine to French cuisine. It breaks down more easily when cooked than other onions. For this reason, it is preferred in caramelization and sauce making. Red onions, green onions or leeks can be used instead of shallots.

Shallots can be consumed raw, fried or caramelized. It can be preferred in making sauces. It can also be pickled.
