What's the Difference Between Pastrami and Corned Beef?

Pastrami and corned beef have similarities and differences. Pastrami is usually made from beef. However, it can also be made with lamb or turkey meat. Both types of meat are brined before cooking. It is rubbed with salt and spices to add moisture and flavor to the meat. After the brine process, the pastrami is seasoned with a mixture of black pepper, coriander, mustard seeds, fennel seeds and sometimes fresh garlic, smoked and steamed. This seasoning process is not applied to corned beef. Instead, it is boiled and steamed.

    How to Store Pastrami?

Pastrami can be stored in the refrigerator or freezer. Store-bought pastrami should be stored in the refrigerator. Meat that has been kept at room temperature for 2 hours or more should not be consumed. After the package of pastrami is opened, it should be consumed within 3 days.

You can also freeze pastrami. Wrap the pastrami with cling film and place in a freezer bag. This way the pastrami will stay fresh for up to 3 months. Thaw frozen pastrami in the refrigerator before eating it and cook it on the stovetop.

Make sure the pastrami is not spoiled before consuming it. Discard the product in case of odor or mold.
