  1. Preheat the oven to 400 °F.
  2. Cut the bread into equal cubes ¾ inch wide. Put 2 cups of bread cubes on a baking tray lined with greaseproof paper.
  3. Mix salt, pepper and garlic powder in a bowl. You can add other spices if you wish.
  4. Then drizzle olive oil over the bread on the baking tray. Toss all the bread cubes with the oil. Sprinkle the spice mix over the bread. Then gently mix the breads again.
  5. Spread the croutons on the tray. Bake for 10 minutes or until the breads are golden brown and crispy.
  6. Take the croutons out of the oven. Let it cool down. Then season with additional salt and pepper if desired.
  7. You can consume it 1-2 hours after cooking. You can store it in a sealed bag for later use if you wish.

Tips

  • For the best croutons, use white bread or french baguettes. If you wish, you can use sourdough bread, whole grain bread or brioche.
  • If using fresh bread, crumble it. As fresh bread is delicate, gently break it into pieces by hand.
  • If using stale bread, slice it. Make sure the bread is at least 1 day old.
  • Fresh bread bakes later than stale bread. Therefore, check the oven from time to time while the breads are baking.
  • About 8 cups of bread cubes are obtained in a loaf of bread. ¼ of a loaf of bread will be enough for this recipe.
