Directions

Chicken

  1. Wash the skinless and boneless chicken breast piece. Pat it dry using a kitchen towel. With the help of a sharp knife, cut the breast piece into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a shallow bowl, beat an egg and season it lightly with salt and black pepper.
  3. Add all-purpose flour, cornflour, salt, black pepper, and red chili flakes to another bowl. Mix so that everything is well incorporated.
  4. Take each chicken piece. Dip it first in the egg mixture and then in the all-purpose flour mixture so that the piece is completely coated. Place it on a plate and repeat the process until you have coated all the pieces.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a saucepan or frying pan. Add enough oil to shallow fry the chicken.
  6. Once the oil heats up, add coated chicken pieces and fry them for about 5 minutes or until they are crispy and get a golden brown color. Once done, take them out of the pan onto a plate lined with a paper towel.

Sauce

  1. Add ketchup, white wine vinegar, honey, and soy sauce in a medium-sized bowl. Mix well.
  2. In a wok, add sesame oil and minced garlic.
  3. Sauté for 30 seconds until it is fragrant.
  4. Add the sauce and brown sugar. Mix well and cook until the sauce starts to bubble.
  5. Add the cooked chicken and toss for a minute so that the sauce coats the chicken pieces.
  6. Take the chicken out in a serving dish. Garnish with sesame seeds and freshly chopped green onions.
  7. Serve with cooked rice or noodles. Enjoy.

What Is Sesame Chicken?

Sesame chicken is an Asian dish that is widely eaten all around the world. It is very popular in Chinese cuisine. Sesame chicken is a fried crispy chicken piece that is coated in a sweet and sour sticky sauce. The chicken is coated with egg and a mixture of all-purpose flour and cornflour. When fried, it is crispy and crunchy. The sauce is more sweet than sour and is made from soy sauce, ketchup, garlic, and vinegar. The fried chicken pieces are tossed in the sauce and topped with a generous amount of sesame seeds.

Which One Is Better: Chicken breast vs. thighs?

There is no rule on which meat cut works best for sesame chicken. Most people prefer using chicken thigh meat. That’s because the meat is fattier, tender, and cooks faster. Furthermore, the thigh meat is more flavorful than the white breast meat. However, you can also use chicken breast meat. Chicken breast meat is easy to use since you don’t have to de-bone it. But you have to keep an eye on it because overcooking can make it chewy and dry. When cooked to perfection, both types of meats offer flavor and juiciness.

What to Serve with Sesame Chicken?

You can happily enjoy sesame chicken on its own without any side dish. Its sauce makes it perfectly wholesome. However, if you want to enjoy it as a complete meal, here are a few things you can serve with sesame chicken:

Rice: Sesame chicken and boiled/cooked rice are like bread and butter. You can serve it with plain white rice, jasmine rice, or even brown rice.

Noodles: If you are a noodle lover, don’t hold back. Serve sesame chicken with rice or egg noodles and enjoy.

Vegetables: You can serve sesame chicken on a bed of stir-fried vegetables. Chicken and vegetables are a perfect combination. Stir fry, or saute carrots, bell pepper, broccoli, peas and serve alongside sesame chicken.
