The Best Vegan Restaurants in the World

2 February 2021

Veganism has seen a huge surge in recent years. Thanks to more and more people getting creative with the food that they’re making.

There are fewer reasons to eat meat than ever. In this article, we’re going to be focussing on some restaurants that have realized just that, and are now serving solely vegan food.

Saido - Tokyo, Japan

Saido is a wonderful vegan restaurant that may just be worth the trip to Tokyo, no matter where you are in the world. On their website, Saido speaks about how their menu comes to vegan food from the approach of junk Japanese food. The fusion of these two worlds is simply wonderful, from both a culinary point of view and a beauty point of view.

Saido has a wide range of foods on offer, from noodles to bowls, snacks, and fried foods. It all sounds wonderful and like a true embrace of the twin concepts of Japanese food and veganism. Japanese food is all about creating a delicate balance between a number of different flavors, and that’s something that we adore.

So often, vegan food is created as a blunt tool - a stew, for example, where the beef has been replaced with tofu. Saido serves food where the ‘tool’ is razor-sharp, and flavor marriages are not at all hampered by a lack of meat or fish.

Shift Eatery - Surrey Hills, Australia

Shift eatery is a wonderful place to eat if you’re ever in the neighborhood - whether you’re following a plant-based diet or just looking for some good food.

Staggeringly, Shift makes all of their own meats, cheeses, and sauces! This is incredibly impressive, but also completely understandable. If the main focal point of the food you’re serving is going to be how it stacks up against tried and tested (meat-based) recipes, then you’ll want to ensure that it tastes wonderful.

This is likely the reason that a lot of their ingredients are made in house - there’s no better way to spice and make a wonderful meat substitute than in your own kitchen. These meats are also available as deli cuts from Shift, along with vegan cheeses, also made in-house. Shift really is a one-stop-shop for a huge number of different food needs.

The restaurant also offers a full suite of brunch favorites, from smoothies to coffee. This, simply, is impressive. It’s a well-known fact that the larger a menu is, the harder it will be to get everything right.

Shift has been making food for an awfully long time now, and have gotten to the point they’re at by continuously making great food. Their huge menu is a testament to their superb offerings.

Vegan Beat - Athens, Greece

As one of the top-rated restaurants in Athens, this eatery has quite the hype to live up to. Thankfully, it delivers! One of the few ways to make a trip to Greece even better, Vegan Beat offers a huge and wonderful range of different foodstuffs. You can get wonderfully traditional Greek food, as well as delectable desserts, and it’s all vegan!

One of the best things about this restaurant, perhaps, is the lightness of all the food that is served here. It means that you can stop for a lunch halfway through a day packed with tourist stops, and then feel free to continue onwards at your leisure, unencumbered by a huge, stodgy lunch.

Ataya Caffe - Berlin, Germany

Ataya Caffe is a wonderful culinary experience that extends beyond just the delicious food. Though the food is certainly worth the trip!

Ataya Caffe blends respect for traditional Senegalese cuisine with the superb depth and elegance of Italian food. This is wonderful news for an awful lot of diners out there, who may find that vegan food can be a little, well, dull at times. Thankfully, with a stunning Senegalese palette and the simplicity of Italian-style cooking, all the food on offer is AtayaCaffe is not only vegan, but it is also incredible!

In keeping with the simplistic style of their Italian cooking, the eatery has made sure to avoid offering wifi, complementary or otherwise, in their restaurant. This decision means that you’re much more likely to enjoy your memorable time in the establishment, as not only will you be chatting with the people with you, you’ll also have an unspoiled view of their stunning incredibly decadent food.

In a stunningly brilliant move to further this aesthetic, AtayaCaffe encourages you to check out a book from their library if you’re looking for something to do with your eyes that isn’t food-based. This whole experience is extremely cozy, making for a wonderful time which you won’t be able to resist repeating.

CactusCat Bar - Barcelona, Spain

This is a vegan favorite in Barcelona, and CactusCat covers a number of different, wonderful niches. They offer a stunning all-day brunch, as well as lunch and dinner to boot. Their menu rotates each month, which makes for a wonderfully changeable experience.

No matter which rotation the menu is on when you go, it’s worth scouring for something incredible. The food focuses on Catalan and international cuisine, so there’s sure to be something there to suit even the pickiest of eaters. If it’s the kind of thing that you’d like, then you’d be wise to consider their selection of craft beers and wines. Chilled beer is a wonderful addition to a hot, sunny Spanish day, so make sure to ask for a full list.

If you wanted to grab a quick lunch At CactusCat, then you can do just that. They have great delivery and take-out services available, ideal for nabbing a wonderful lunch while you plan the afternoon’s sight-seeing.

There is no shortage of wonderful vegan eateries available out there, and we’re sure that we’ve missed at least one or two! Do you know of a great vegan restaurant that we haven’t included on our list? Get in touch and let us know! We always love hearing about great food, and we’re sure that we’d enjoy hearing about your favorite spot too.
