Crispy Homemade Baked Tofu

  1. Place the tofu on a kitchen towel lined tray. Place another kitchen towel on top and place a heavy plate or cutting board on top. Let the excess water drain for about 3 minutes.
  2. After draining the excess water from the tofu, cut into equal cubes and place in a large bowl.
  3. Drizzle olive oil and soy sauce on top and mix well so that the tofu is coated with sauce and oil.
  4. Add corn starch, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, and salt in a bowl. Mix well.
  5. Sprinkle this mixture over tofu and toss so that every piece gets a coat.
  6. Place the tofu cubes on a parchment-lined baking tray.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 400 °F for about 30 minutes.
  8. Flip the tofu pieces after 15 minutes so that they are cooked evenly.
  9. Once done, take them out of the oven, garnish them with freshly chopped green onions and serve alongside your favorite dip or sauce.

Tips

  • Always use extra firm tofu for this recipe. Moreover, press the tofu to get rid of excess water. Otherwise, the baked tofu will become soggy.
  • If you don’t have cornstarch, you can use arrowroot starch or tapioca starch as well. These two ingredients are plant-based and give the same result.

How To Store Baked Tofu?

You can also store baked tofu by freezing it. Once it is cool enough, place it on a tray and flash freeze for about 4 hours. Take the tray out of the freezer and transfer the tofu to a freezer-safe container or plastic zip lock bag. Freeze for up to 3 months. Simply reheat it by baking for 5 to 10 minutes or until it is crispy again. You don’t need to thaw frozen baked tofu.
