Tips

  • Cooking lo mein noodles is similar to making spaghetti sauce. You want to keep the frying pan moving most of the time, otherwise, you'll end up with burnt or sticky bits in your food which are not tasty at all!
  • Use a large enough wok. Many people like to use a non-stick skillet or frying pan. However, be sure to use a wok for this dish, as you need a large cooking surface for all the ingredients to touch the hot surface of your pan.
  • Let your noodles dry. It's best if your lo mein noodles are not too wet when you add them to the pan with other ingredients because it will make your dish too watery. Instead, you'd want the noodles to be dry before adding them to the pan. This will help you create a better flavor at the end of cooking.
  • Use the right type of vegetables. Some people like using carrots in addition to the other vegetables. Carrots are great for this dish because they add a nice crunch and sweetness to your noodles when fried together with the onion and pepper.
  • When making lo mein noodles, dark soy sauce gives the noodles a rich, dark color and also adds deep flavor! This ingredient is usually found in most Asian markets and even supermarkets with a good selection of international food.
