  3. Cut the apples and pears into 3/4-inch-thick slices.
  4. Peel and core the pineapple; cut it into 2-inch chunks.
  5. Peel the papaya, cut it in half, discard the seeds, and cut it into 2-inch chunks.

  • Choose ripe but not too ripe fruit. Avoid soft fruits, prefer hard textured fruits. Heat breaks down the sugar in the fruit and spoils the hard structure of the fruit. That's why if you grill soft or overripe fruit, they may crumble and fall apart.
  • Bananas and pineapples are ideal for making grilled fruit. If you're grilling bananas, keep them in their skins to preserve their soft texture. In this way, they are cooked at high temperatures without burning.
  • Put only one type of fruit on a single skewer, because the various fruits cook at different rates.
  • Cut the fruit into large pieces to cook evenly and prevent the fruit from falling apart. For small pieces, use a grill pan or skewer.
  • Lightly oil the fruit with a brush to prevent them from burning. You can use grape oil or melted unsalted butter for this.
  • Prepare the grill about 10 minutes in advance. This way, the fruits will cook better.
  • Cook the fruit over high heat for about 1-3 minutes on each side.
